While we were in Spokane, Russell and I managed to get away for a day and a half (a HUGE thanks to Mom and Dad Fox, McKenna, Emmalynn and Megan and Caitlyn for making it possible) for our 15th anniversary celebration. (If a bit early.)

We stayed at a cute B&B with a grumpy proprietor (she's been in the business for 23 years, and is done. Literally. The house has sold, she is just waiting for the buyer's loan to go through), but it was in a great location near downtown Portland and in a beautiful neighborhood. (Nob Hill, for you locals...)
Tuesday night, we had dinner here

Yes, you read that right: I ate Indian food. And liked it. Possibly because our friends Nick and Lisa came with us, and Nick ordered all the food.

It was a fun evening -- we talked, we laughed, we rolled out of there... the owner kept coming by to check on us (again, thanks to Nick -- he's, um, known now, though he said he doesn't really like being known all that much) and the server was cool, too. (He snapped the pic.)
After dinner, we walked back up the road and popped into

Amazing place. Especially for bibliophiles... we went back Wednesday morning and spent two hours there. And didn't even see it all (because my feet hurt, mostly. My only complaint: nowhere comfy to sit!)
After Powell's we ate here

It's the reason we wanted to go to Portland -- Nick is part-owner of the place. (It's also why he's becoming known around Portland.) It's a Jewish deli, specializing in pastrami. And delicious not-for-vegetarian sandwiches. It was very very good.

Russell got a two-meat sandwich: corned beef and pastrami. That thing was all meat...
After lunch, Nick suggested we go over to

to pick up some chocolates. World-class, he said. Well, the chocolates were a bit fancy (I like my chocolate to be like pizza: slightly above average and able to be eaten in bulk. Anything else is good, but pointless.) but the drinking chocolate was scrumptious. Like drinking a melted chocolate bar.
And then, after a bit of walking, we stopped here

Mostly because I saw it on the way to the B&B and I was still in ABBA-gaudy mode and declared that I had to stop at a place that did pink-fringe on its table umbrellas. The cupcakes were good. Not brilliant, but quite good. (The story of Saint Cupcake was very cute... I took a picture at it; if you have good eyes, you can read it
here.)
We had a
yummy good time. :) A good way to celebrate 15 years, I think.
