Some background: it turns out that the drama department has a long history of juniors and seniors inviting underclassmen to prom. They're really big on inclusion and fitting in and getting along, and this is just part of it. And so, one of the seniors, Bethany, decided to ask Caitlyn if she'd like to go.
At first, that kind of weirded me out: what freshman gets asked to prom?!? But, it was a friend who asked, so it's not a "date". They were going with a huge group of drama kids out to dinner and the dance and they promised to have her home by midnight (she was home by 11:30). And they're good kids. (And Caitlyn paid for her own ticket and didn't even go get a dress.) So, I said, sure. Go, have fun.
BUT.
I told her that, when she's a junior and/or senior, she needs to pay it forward and invite a freshman to the prom. She said, "Of course!" (Also, she needs to find a way to go to prom next year, so she can go all four years. For completion's sake.)
Anyway, I didn't go do the whole prom picture thing, but I did snap a picture when Bethany came by to get Caitlyn.
From what I heard, she had a GREAT time!

Activity Days - Me and My Guy Superheroes
We had a party for our Activity Day girls this week, with a superhero theme. I have to give props to my "assistant", who did all the work with the decorations, brought most of the food, came up with a really sweet presentation, and basically made it a great evening. I showed up, and contributed a few games and took the pictures. Which turned out really cute, by the way.
And Alison got a bonus shot:
It was a really fun evening!

What Megan Has Been Up To This Semester
I figured it was time for an update, so I hounded her for pictures (she prefers Instagram, in case you want to find her over there) while she was home. This is what she sent.
Super Pi Day
Alison INSISTED that she NEEDED a pi shirt for Super Pi Day, and so we ran out and got her one.
She was very happy.

Proof We Did Something Other Than Watch TV During Spring Break
(Though, really, that's what we did the most of.)
It was lovely on Monday, so we got out and met some friends at the park, and enjoyed the spring weather before the rain moved back in.

A Room Re-Do
When Megan turned 15, we re-did her room into the lovely India room that we have now. Ever since then (it's been 4 years!), Caitlyn has been waiting patiently for her 15th birthday and a chance to re-do her room. (I wanted to actually build a new room with a window and a vent by now, but, yeah, that's not happening.) And finally, the time came to turn this blue room (which hasn't been painted since before we moved in)
We had a whole crew working (it took 3 coats!) to turn the blue white:
And in the end, it looks lovely. It's not quite done yet... we painted some color on the walls, but we need to install the new ceiling fan, and get a lamp, some sheets, and some picture frames, and I need to do a bit of touch-up work (which I should have done yesterday...). But here's a teaser of the artwork that Caitlyn did:
It's going to be fantastic when we're done!

Very Hungry Caterpillar Day
As part of my job, I get to do cool things now, like be in charge of events where we have inflatable caterpillars come. The girls begged to go (one lesson I learned: if the girls are going to come, then another adult/older child/kid wrangler needs to come as well, because I can't work and be mom at the same time. Alas.), so I dragged them along.
I think everyone had a great time!

Caitlyn Had a Birthday!
Fifteen is one of those in between birthdays. Not cool or important, like 16 or 18, but grown up enough not to get piles of presents.
Musing about the state of things...
She got cards and money and a room-redo (more on that in a later post), so a lot of the pictures look like this:
She wanted a drama cake, so we did this:
And enjoyed eating it!
It was a low-key birthday, but I think it was a happy one!

Spring Choir Concert
The spring festival choir concert was on Thursday. It wasn't as fun as some of the other ones we've gone to, but it was short. And the choirs did well on all their pieces (though Caitlyn said everyone was complaining backstage afterward that they were horrible). Caitlyn also performed her piece for Bearlesque, but I'm going to save putting that up until the concert in May.
Caitlyn doesn't really like this song, but I thought the clapping was cool.
This one's in Latin, and it's Caitlyn's favorite. For good reason.
Enjoy!

It's Babymouse!
I went downstairs and discovered this on the chalkboard:
I found out later that Alison drew the head, and Kristen drew the body. I'm constantly amazed at their talent!
