4th Grade Music

The 4th Grade music program was last week, and I was back in time to go see it. The theme was 1950s and she (at least) had a good time and did well.

The first number was a dance number, and I recorded it, but I accidentally deleted it. Which is too bad because she and her partner were really cute. Thankfully, I snapped an okay picture of them.

Kristen even had a speaking part!

And these are the other numbers she wanted me to record.

It was a very cute program!

Kristen Goes Camping

One of the best thing about this girl scout troop is that they like doing activities. (Kristen also thinks that's a bad thing; she doesn't want to miss anything, but it gets tiring doing EVERYTHING with the girl scouts.) They recently went on a camp out down at the Girl Scout center grounds.

I'm glad she was in a few of the pictures that her troop leader took!

Corn Maze

I was out of town last weekend, Marie was at a debate tournament, Caitlyn was resting up between shows, and so Russell took Alison, Kristen, and some of his students to the local corn maze. From what I heard, it was a gorgeous day and they all had a good time. Bonus: they picked up our pumpkins, so we didn't have to do that later!

The farm made a whole bunch of designs out of their pumpkins. This was Alison and Kristen's favorite.

Daddy-Daughter Campout 2015

One of the things Russell did when he was called into the bishopric was re-instate the Daddy Daughter Campout. The girls had enjoyed it when we first moved here, and it had fallen off. This year, however, they complained mightily about it (even though he'd gone through the effort to organize it), mostly because their good friends were out of town and wouldn't be there. As it turned out, Russell, Alison, and Kristen were the only ones to show up from our ward. But, it looks like they had a good time, after all.

Friday night...

And Saturday morning.

Kristen Is a Roadie

So, yesterday, I had a musician scheduled to do storytime at work. I didn't know how many to expect, so I grabbed Kristen and insisted she come along so there'd be one kid. We got there, and she immediately looked at the musician and said, "Can I help?" So, he put her to work being his "roadie": helping him haul in his stuff, helping set up. She also was on small kid entertainment duty until it started. I didn't think (mostly because we had more than 100 people show up, which I wasn't expecting. At. All.) to get a picture of the musician and Kristen together until everyone had left and we were on our way home. But here's a picture of the huge musician(Kristen's in the pink striped beanie)

and the huge crowd

and a video where she actually shows up:

It was a fun, if a bit exhausting, morning.

Kristen Goes Kayaking

In the last of Kristen's Outdoor Summer Adventures, she and Russell went Kayaking on the Arkansas river.

She didn't like the learning how to part very much.

But the being out on the water part? She loved.

Russell had a good time, too!

Full Moon Night Hike

Kristen really liked the night hike we did last year, so Russell took her on another one on the last day of the month. It was a full moon (a blue moon, as Kristen proudly announced when they got home), and they saw deer, frogs, and lots of spiders. Not too many pictures, being dark and all.

They had a great time, though!

Girl Scout Bridging

Last night, Kristen's Girl Scout troop bridged from Brownies to Juniors. It was a nice, short little ceremony.

She felt a little down, I think, because she just joined the troop this year, and doesn't have the history the other girls have. That, and she missed a few of the extra activities. (We're going to try and be better about getting her to those, especially since her leaders really want to take them camping.)

Even so, I'm glad she wants to stick with it. I think she'll have a good experience as she goes on.

Kristen and the River

One of the things we did this summer was to make sure Kristen had as wide a variety of outdoor activities as possible. The latest was an early-morning tromp in the river. (I'm assuming it's a branch of the Arkansas, but I don't know for sure.)

Russell wasn't planning on staying with her, but he'd brought the camera, and she begged him to go along. So he did. I'm glad (even though it ruined socks and I'm still sweeping sand out of the house), because it looks like Kristen had a fantastic time.

It's Always Fun to Get Your Face Painted

Especially if you can have someone creative do it.
