Happy Halloween

The Orchestra Concert

If you can handle 2 1/2 minutes of 7th and 8th grade orchestra, and if you will believe me that Megan's in there somewhere.

A Bit of Fall

Some random fall-ness from Alison and Kristen:
With Jack, the scarecrow, and showing off pumpkins from the pumpkin patch.

Yesterday, Alison begged me to rake leaves. I wasn't sure that there would be enough for a pile, but, sure enough, there was. They had fun.

Father and Daughters

A week or so ago was a Daddy-Daughter dinner. Russell and the girls had a good time. They took pictures (backdrop provided by our ward's resident artist), and we got them yesterday at church.

A New Meaning to Having Your Ducks in a Row

Four Girls, One Dress

It occured to me yesterday, when Kristen was wearing this dress, that it's one of the few items of clothing that not only have gone through all four girls, but that I actually have pictures of, because they absolutely loved it. (Every single one.)

Megan

Caitlyn

Alison

And Kristen (who likes to wear it backwards!)

Ooohhh, So Scary

It's becoming a bit of a tradition...

We had Elder Ale and Elder Neilsen over for dinner last night, and because we like torturing our good elders, we put together our Halloween Haunted Gingerbread/Graham Cracker House.

It took them a little while to get warmed up, but they eventually got into the whole process.

In fact, they took it over... especially when we got to the decorating.

(As a matter of fact, so did I... the only one who didn't was Kristen, and that's because she was too busy eating up all the M&Ms.)

Our finished product: That's a pumpkin killing a cat (Megan's idea) on the top, with marshmallow skulls on the spike (Elder Ale's idea). In the bottom corner, it's another evil pumpkin, attacking a ghost and a cat (Alison's idea).

A detail from the front: Elder Ghost and Elder Cat are keeping guard (Elder Neilsen's idea).

And Elder Ale's creation: a ghost roasting a cat, named Brownie (which just happens to be the nickname that Alison gave Elder Ale when he first got here). He was really funny about it all. In fact, we took a movie of him being goofy about it all, but I'm not going to post it, because it ended up sounding really really racist, and if I put it up somebody somewhere is going to come and get me.... ;)

Elder Ale was sad that his Brownie cat was being roasted.

And Alison's just a ham. :)

It was a ton of fun... we'll have to do it again next year!! (I should have taken a picture of the mess on the table afterward!)

A Trip to the Pumpkin Patch

Yesterday, we went with the preschool to the pumpkin patch! It was a windy day, but not too cold...

They're waiting for the tractor to haul us all out to the corn maze and the pumpkin patch.

The maze wasn't terribly difficult -- it was more a corn stroll. But by the end, the girls weren't really enjoying it anymore! What they really wanted to do was find pumpkins!

After we all got our pumpkins, the tractor hauled us back to the house where we played games

(Kristen's in the back looking at the pumpkins for sale.)

And petted donkeys

And ponies

We had a fun time!

Random Pictures of the Girls

Alison and Caitlyn built this clubhouse, and Alison wanted me to take a picture of her with it.

My two adventure girls. :)

We got a toy catalog in the mail, and they had a good time going through it thinking about... Christmas!!

Cookie Monsters

Granpda and Grandma Madsen sent us Halloween cookie cutters in the mail last week. It was raining on Monday... so we made cookies!

(Look: It's Robot Caitlyn frosting cookies!)

After we were all done decorating, we ate the cookies. Except Alison and Caitlyn decided that they didn't like them. So they drank hot cocoa instead.

The sign on the chairs said this:

Where's Kristen, you ask? Well... she threw an enormous temper tantrum, eventually helped cut a few cookies out (after the camera went away), and then threw another tantrum because we did something to offend her. Eventually, she quit crying... because she fell asleep. She did eat a cookie after she woke up, but I neglected to take a picture of that.

Friday Night Football

We went to our first (of many, probably) high school football game last night. By all accounts, it was a disaster. We missed the homecoming parade (which Megan marched in), Alison and Kristen were bored and restless (why? It's football!) and tired. We left early, and didn't even get to hear the Wilbur band play. Oh, well. There's always next year.

Alison was the big offender... she was up at 5:45 yesterday morning, and didn't take a nap. She was TIRED. And CRANKY.

Kristen -- no surprise here -- preferred to run up and down the bleacher stairs and play with the rocks.

I did manage to get a few pictures of Megan.

You'll just have to trust me that she's playing "the tambourine of power".

We're Twinnies!

We got out the Halloween stuff. They were excited. :)

We're Playing in the Rain

It rained yesterday, which means that there were puddles! And I had two happy puddle-stompers:

And rain-catchers:

She's wearing the helmet to keep the rain off her head. :)

The best part, though, was the bath they got when they were done!

Tweaking the Process

Okay, so I decided today that I really shouldn't use the girls blog for my photos. So... I'm going to take over the Flickr photostream (which rarely gets used anyway). I'll probably put a bunch up there, oh, weekly or so. And maybe once a month I'll make a photo mosaic for here. When I do have ones with the girls, though, I'll post them here. Hopefully, that'll work better. :)

Exuberance

Or "Jumping Down Stairs".
